Driving after YAG laser capsulotomy is usually safe once your vision clears and meets legal standards. This is often by the next day, but timing should be confirmed individually.
Day of treatment
You must not drive yourself home from the procedure. Dilating drops and bright light from the laser temporarily blur and dazzle your vision.
- Arrange transport with a friend, family member, or taxi.
- Expect light sensitivity and misty sight for several hours.
- Bring sunglasses to wear after leaving the clinic.
- Rest your eyes for the remainder of the day where possible.
- Use prescribed drops as directed to support comfort.
When it is safe to drive
Most people can drive once their sight is clear and comfortable again. Your clinician will advise you based on your individual results and other eye conditions.
- Check each eye separately to ensure number plates are clear at the required distance.
- Avoid night driving until glare and haloes feel manageable.
- Use lubricating drops before longer journeys to reduce dryness.
- Stop and seek urgent help if you notice sudden blur or a shadow.
