Exercise after SMILE can usually be reintroduced quite quickly, but intensity should build gradually. Protecting the eyes from sweat, impact, and dust is important.
Light Activity
Gentle movement is often possible within a day or two.
- Walking and light stretching are usually fine as soon as you feel comfortable.
- Avoid heavy sweating that may drip into the eyes in the first few days.
- Do not rub your eyes during or after activity; use lubricating drops if they feel dry or gritty.
- Wear sunglasses outdoors to reduce wind and dust exposure.
Sport and High-Impact Exercise
More vigorous activities need tailored advice.
- Running, gym workouts, and non‑contact sports are commonly resumed after several days, depending on your surgeon’s guidance.
- Contact sports and activities with a risk of eye injury may be delayed for a few weeks and should include protective eyewear.
- Swimming and water sports are usually postponed until the surface has fully healed.
- Stop and seek review if exercise triggers pain, redness, or sudden visual changes.
