# Does pinguecula removal surgery hurt?

Pinguecula removal surgery is generally not painful during the procedure because anaesthetic drops and injections are used. Recovery discomfort is usually mild to moderate.

## During the operation

The surface of the eye is numbed, then the pinguecula is carefully removed. You remain awake but should not feel cutting.

- You may notice pressure or fluid movement
- Any pain is treated immediately with extra anaesthetic
- The procedure time is usually short
- Sometimes a small graft is placed to aid healing

## After surgery

The eye may feel sore, scratchy, and light-sensitive for a few days. These symptoms gradually settle.

- Lubricating and antibiotic drops support comfort and healing
- Simple painkillers handle most discomfort

- Redness usually fades over several weeks
