Corneal thickness does not directly change the price of laser eye surgery, but it determines suitability, and suitability influences the treatment pathway.

**Why thickness matters**

Laser requires a safe residual stromal bed (RSB) and acceptable Percent Tissue Altered (PTA). ¹ Thin corneas or high ablation depths may increase ectasia risk, shifting patients toward:

- Surface ablation (PRK/LASEK)
- ICL
- No surgery if biomechanics are unsafe

**How this affects cost**

- Surface ablation may involve longer follow-up, therapeutic lenses, and additional medications.
- ICL is a different cost category entirely due to the bespoke implant.
- Enhanced diagnostics (epithelial mapping, tomography) may be required.
