# Can I shower after eyelid surgery?

You can usually shower carefully soon after eyelid surgery, but you must protect the eyelids and incisions from direct water, soap, and rubbing.

## Early showering advice

The skin around the eyes is delicate and bruised. Gentle washing keeps you comfortable while reducing infection risk.

- Shower with your back to the water and avoid direct spray on your face
- Keep your eyes closed and do not rub the eyelids
- Pat the skin dry with a clean towel instead of wiping
- Avoid very hot showers that may increase bleeding or swelling
- Do not use eye make-up until your surgeon confirms it is safe

## Returning to normal washing

As swelling and tenderness settle, you can relax some precautions. Follow your team's advice about stitches and scar care.

- Normal gentle showering is often possible after about one week
- Continue to avoid vigorous rubbing of the eyelids for longer
- Use mild skincare and shampoos on healed areas
- Delay swimming pools and hot tubs until you are fully cleared
- Contact the clinic if redness, discharge, or pain increase after showering
