## Causes and symptoms

Uveitis may arise on its own or as part of a wider body illness. Sometimes no clear cause is found.

- Symptoms include light sensitivity, floaters, and aching eye pain.
- Vision may become misty or patchy.
- Autoimmune diseases, infections, and injuries are possible triggers.
- Blood tests and scans may be needed to look for underlying problems.
- Uveitis can be acute, recurrent, or chronic.

## Treatment and follow-up

Prompt treatment reduces scarring and protects sight. Therapy aims to calm inflammation while minimising side effects.

- Steroid drops, injections, or tablets are commonly used.
- Pupil-dilating drops relieve pain from ciliary spasm.
- Immunosuppressive medicines may be needed for long-term control.
- Regular checks monitor pressure, cataract, and macular oedema.
- Report any flare of pain, redness, or blur quickly.
