# Psoriasis on the eyelids

Psoriasis can affect the eyelids and surrounding skin, causing redness, scaling, and discomfort. Eye surface irritation may develop if flakes enter the tear film.

## Features and challenges

The delicate eyelid skin makes treatment more complex than on other body areas.

- Red, scaly plaques along the lash line and periocular region
- Possible associated blepharitis, dry eye, or conjunctivitis
- Risk of eyelid margin thickening and lash misdirection in chronic cases
- Often occurs with psoriasis elsewhere on the body

## Treatment

Management balances efficacy with safety near the eye.

- Mild topical steroids or calcineurin inhibitors under dermatology guidance
- Lid hygiene and lubricating drops to relieve surface symptoms
- Monitoring for steroid side effects such as glaucoma or cataract
- Systemic or biologic therapies in severe generalised psoriasis
