# Ectopia lentis

Ectopia lentis is displacement or subluxation of the crystalline lens from its normal position. It can be hereditary or secondary to trauma or systemic disease.

## Causes and signs

Degree and direction of displacement can vary.

- Marfan syndrome, homocystinuria, and Weill-Marchesani as classic genetic associations
- Lens edge visible on dilation, irregular astigmatism, and fluctuating refraction
- Possible monocular diplopia or glare
- Risk of lens-induced glaucoma if the lens blocks fluid flow

## Management

Treatment is individualised based on vision and complications.

- Glasses or contact lenses for mild subluxation
- Surgical lens removal and possible lens fixation in more severe cases
- Systemic evaluation for associated syndromes
- Regular monitoring of intraocular pressure and retinal status
