# Convergence insufficiency

Convergence insufficiency is difficulty turning both eyes inwards together for near tasks. It can cause eye strain and double vision when reading.

## Symptoms and diagnosis

Problems often arise during prolonged close work.

- Headache, blurred or double vision, and loss of place when reading
- Words appearing to move or swim on the page
- Near point of convergence is remote on examination
- Symptoms improve when covering one eye

## Treatment

Most cases respond well to targeted exercises.

- Home or office-based convergence exercises and pencil push-ups
- Prism reading glasses in selected patients
- Addressing any underlying refractive error or general fatigue
- Regular review to monitor progress and adjust therapy
