# Conjunctival cyst

A conjunctival cyst is a thin-walled, fluid-filled sac on the surface of the eye or inside the eyelid. Most are benign and cause only minor irritation.

## Symptoms and causes

Cysts may be congenital or arise after inflammation or surgery.

- Clear or slightly opaque bubble visible on the conjunctiva
- Foreign-body sensation, tearing, or cosmetic concern
- Occasionally linked to prior trauma, surgery, or chronic conjunctivitis
- Usually non-painful and not affecting vision

## Treatment

Small asymptomatic cysts can simply be observed.

- Lubricating drops for mild irritation
- Needle drainage or surgical excision if bothersome or recurrent
- Histopathology in atypical or solid lesions to exclude tumours
- Follow-up to monitor for recurrence after removal
